As much as I love making great recipes more than once, I wanted to try something a little bit different with this months Daring Bakers Challenge- Challah. I’ve made challah once before with great success using this recipe. Although the 6-braid job was a little rough, it came out fluffy, sweet, and tender. An AMAZING challah recipe. BUT! I didn’t want to do the same recipe twice, especially if it was for a challenge. So I set my sights on one of Allrecipes most top-rated challah recipes. Didn’t hold a candle to my original challah recipe. I was incredibly disappointed : (
I will say though, I probably messed this loaf up. I forgot to add the eggs in with the yeast/honey/water/oil mixture before I started adding the flour. I ended up adding the eggs in after about half the flour was already incorporated. Not the best idea for optimal texture. AND I never really developed the gluten quite enough. My mixer has been on the fritz and my arms just couldn’t bare to do the job so I cut out of kneading until completely done. The resulting loaf was dry and dense. Terrible. Since the recipe was rated so highly I really think it was my error alone that did this.
I still would recommend my recipe over the Allrecipe one though. It uses white sugar instead of honey and has more oil and eggs overall. It’s just so tender. I LOOOOOVE it!

What a beautiful Challah! 6 braids sounds so complicated, I get confused with 3
. I love your step-by-step photos! My favorite Challah so far is from Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day, I believe it has butter, not oil. But now I am curious to try your recipe too
.
Have a wonderful weekend!
p.s. Thanks for joinnig RecipeNewZ, it’s a pleasure seeing your delicious posts!
I’ve never tried any of the Artisan Breads in 5 minutes a day- I really need to get on board with that! I hear so many good things.
I really want to make challah, it’s just so good and i love how fluffy it is. i’m too scared of the braiding part though, it’s so intense! i might challenge myself though and give it a shot
