Upon making this watermelon drink I discovered something- I don’t like watermelon. And it’s certainly not the drinks fault. I think somewhere deep down inside I’ve always been less than enthused about watermelon at picnics, BBQ’s, etc. Now I know why. I just don’t particularly like the fruit. However, despite how I feel about watermelon I wanted to make some sort of refreshing drink to share with you this summer. And this one seemed so easy, I just couldn’t pass it up!
Made using only a simple syrup and fruit, this Watermelon drink is SO simple. If you have a blender you can make this drink. Just heat the water and sugar together until the sugar is dissolved and then puree it with the watermelon. Chill and serve with ice. DONE. See? Couldn’t be easier?
And the cool thing is that is works with pretty much any fruit. Honeydew, cantaloupe, probably even berries. This is a really great way to get some homemade “juice” into your kids! No high fructose corn syrup in this bad boy.
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 4 cups cubed, seedless watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew melon
- Pour water and sugar into medium saucepan. Heat on high, stirring occasionally, until all the sugar is dissolved. Set aside in refrigerator to cool completely (or proceed and cool drink once mixed).
- Process watermelon and simple syrup in blender until smooth. Strain through fine mesh sieve. Refrigerate and serve chilled over ice.
