Homemade French Vanilla Coffee Creamer

homemade french vanilla coffee creamer

Who else out there is addicted to those flavored coffee creamers, like International Delight? I know I am. There was a point where I got by with just sugar and half and half, but that brief period in my history didn’t last for very long. I went right back to the International Delight French Vanilla Creamer. And it had to be that brand and NOT the powder kind! I get my stubbornness with that from my Mother. She won’t drink coffee any other way. Even if my Dad accidentally picks up the fat-free/sugar-free kind of the same creamer, she’ll have him go back and get the right one. And if she wakes up in the morning and goes to get her coffee and she is completely out of creamer… you better hope you’re not in the house at that time because somebody is going out and getting her more. It’s a very serious matter in my house. Personally I am not all that married to the idea of that particular type of creamer. I mean, I did try and get away from it at one point… I just couldn’t find a good enough substitute. Until now!

You’re probably wondering why I want to so badly stop using the creamer. Well, did you know that those flavored creamers have zero dairy in them???? That’s a problem for me. If they don’t have dairy in them, that what exactly are they made of…. let me enlighten you-

Water, Sugar, Palm Oil, Corn Syrup, Contains 2% Or Less Of The Following: Sodium Caseinate* (A Milk Derivative), Dipotassium Phosphate, Natural And Artificial Flavors, Mono And Diglycerides, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Carrageenan, Salt. *Sodium Caseinate Is Not A Source Of Lactose.

I don’t know about you guys, but none of those ingredients really sit well with me. Especially when the alternative is to just use an all natural half and half and sugar. It just seems so much more natural to go that route. Although I tried that and it got quite boring and I just couldn’t swing it for long. That is why I LOVE this creamer! You get something that is deliciously sweet and creamy that is made from real ingredients. Yes, it uses sweetened condensed milk which is processed, but at least it’s made from dairy! And I won’t lie to you by telling you that it is an exact substitute for the flavored creamers that you can buy, but it is a good alternative. I use it every day now and keep extra cans of sweetened condensed milk lying around for emergencies. I always use just regular sweetened condensed milk and half-and-half. I find that the half-and-half gives the creamer a thicker consistency. If you use skim milk it will be very runny and just not taste as good… but yes, you will certainly save in those calories. And word to the wise- find a nice glass container or jar that you can store this in. It gets very sticky from any drips, and it settles while it sits in the fridge, so it always need to be shaken or stirred before using (I always whisk it back up, shaking doesn’t get everything recombined as well).

I would say maybe two weeks or so. It’s made of dairy, so just about as long as the dairy you use would.
